The Melonie Walker-Murray Award is an annual grant given in honour of the late Melonie Walker-Murray to well deserving students in grades three and four at the Content Gap Primary School. Mrs. Murray taught at the school for over 25 years and for the majority of those years she was assigned the head teacher for grades three and four. She was very enthusiastic and dedicated to her job as a teacher and was heavily involved and committed to the extra lesson programme starting at grade three to give students the quality preparation needed to produce quality results when they got to the national grade six examinations. She believed in proactivity, preparation and hard work as the major keys to success.
Mrs. Murray was not just a teacher; she was also choir director, choreographer and acting coach as she was often charged with various cultural arts responsibilities. She was the lead teacher in charge of the Content Gap Primary School’s Brownies Society during her tenure ensuring that all the members of the club were adequately taught life skills and their awareness expanded through various field trips and nature excursions.
This award seeks to acknowledge and pay homage to the late Melonie Walker- Murray for her love, enthusiasm and commitment to her role as a teacher as well as the consistent ways in which she delivered excellence in the development of the school during her tenure.
CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION:
The grant will be awarded to the grade three and grade four student with the highest academic average in those grades at the end of the school year. The highest academic average should be determined based on combined scores for class test, projects or coursework, interim and final examinations.
The student MUST achieve an average of 80% or higher prior to the presentation graduation.
Student must be punctual, in good attendance and display good discipline.
Student must be an active member of at least one school community club or organization.
Qualifying grades three and four student(s) should be identified by the end of Term 3.
VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP:
Award #1: The award is JMD $10,000 Book Grant to the top student from Grade 3 with academic average exceeding 80%.
Award #2: The award is JMD $10,000 Book Grant to the top student from Grade 4 with academic average exceeding 80%.
AWARDING CONDITIONS:
The award of these Book Grants will be done at the annual graduation ceremony of the Content Gap Primary School. The grants will be disbursed in the form of gift voucher or gift certificates from recognized bookstores in Jamaica.
